 pronunciation
hi all , plz help. why is the first 'a' in the word 'data' is pronounced as in 'lake' and the second 'a' is pronounced as in 'ask'. thank you in advance

Have heard at least three different pronunciations for this on on.
In US and UK most people will pronounce as "dayta" (like you mentioned), have heard it pronounced like this on the BBC news.
Pronouncing as "da-ta" is also not uncommon.
A variant of this is in Australia and NZ with the accent, where they pronounce it as "daar-ta"
