I am Japanese. And now I'm living in U.S. I think teaching English to Japanese children is good idea. In my opinion, many Japanese children[student] are enthuastic about learning English as their second language. And Japan is a safe place than U.S absolutely. Some Japanese are friendly to foreigner but it depends on individual. It doesn't mean some Japanese are harmful to non Japnese so you don't have to worry about that. I guarantee that Japan is a place worth to visit and live in. Good Luck.

Yes Japan is a nice place to live and yes japanese people are very nice to non japanese people. You will love it there.

I am Japanese so I do know. So I don't know why people who probably have never even been here is trying to tell me if it is a nice place or not and the guy below me can bite me with his rudeness.

I didn`t use to think so when I firs moved here but now I do. There are a lot of friendly people in Japan and a lot of not so friendly people but you can ignore the second category easily. It takes an adjustment time, of course, but I really like living here. And, yes, Japan is a very safe place to live in especially in smaller towns. There are a few problems in places like Tokyo and Osaka but not as bad as in other parts of the world. But try to study as much Japanese as you can before coming here since most of them are really bad at English.

On the point of Japanese being friendly, like in any other place in the world, it depends on where you live and who you run into. You have racists there just like how you have racists in every other country in the world too.

Japan is mostly a safe country when you compare statistics to other countries, but statistics don't mean anything if you don't take the standard precautions as everyone else.

If you decide to move to Japan obviously learn Japanese. Makes living a lot easier. Yes english is taught in school, doesn't necessarily mean everyone knows how to speak it, or remember it from school, and it doesn't mean its everywhere.

Japan is what you make of it. Some people love it and others hate it. If you go there with an open mind, have a generally outgoing and cheerful personality, and make an effort to adapt to Japan (rather than expecting Japan to adapt to you), you should have a good experience. Is Japan a safe place? Crime-wise, it's pretty safe. Disaster-wise, the biggest safety issue is the possibility of a major earthquake striking at any time.

You sound like you have a somewhat idealistic image of Japan. It CAN be a nice place, but it is no paradise. You will inevitably encounter some disappointments and frustrating situations there, but those can be overcome. Gambatte!

Yes, they're friendly, but don't expect to be anonymous, especially if your looks aren't mongoloid (i.e. Asian).

Many are studious.

Many will be interested in your family and your country. They will also try speaking English with you.

English is respected by just about everyone in Japan, although not necessarily spoken well. People spend lots of money on learning English, and you'll see lots of weird English on T-shirts, signs, products, etc.

One day I saw a small girl's shirt that said in happy lettering: "Pop a Cherry".

Be careful.
