Post I am a first year teacher but want to go back to staying home with my kids. Should I do it?
I am currently working as a first year bilingual teacher. I have three children under the age of four and feel that I should stay home with them until they start school. Will leaving teaching after only one year hurt me when I try to go back? I plan to go and get my bilingual/esl endorsement during the time I am back at home. Any advice?

Do what you think is best. If you think that this career is ment for you then don't quit.

STAY HOME!! I am also a teacher, I stayed home with my kids until they started school, I treasured that time. I still wish i was home sometimes to be more involved in their school, however financially i am unable to. You will never regret it! As far as getting a job, being a bilingual teacher you should be able to get a job easily anytime you decide to return.

GOOD LUCK!!

Personally, I would want to stay home with my kids. To me, they're the most important thing right now. So, if you can do it financially, I say go for it!

Right now, follow your instincts. Your own kids need you more than a classfull of someone else's kids do. It will not hurt you when you decide to resume your career. Especially if you use par of the time to improve your credentials.

It depends on how old you are.....it is difficult to get a job as you get older....I know school districts stay away from hiring "older" people...they like to hire "young' ones just out of college who they can mold into what they want. If you really want to stay home with your children....worry about it when you want to go back....enjoy spending time with your children.

Stay home with your kids while you can.

If you don't need the money stay home. If you are on a state retirement system, keep the money in the system until you are sure that you may not want to teach again.
You don't have to resign from teaching, some school districts with let you take unpaid leave for a year or two to work on your education.
