Do you have any suggestions for her? She's 36 years old. She has a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineer from a well known American university. Her son is two years old. She's always liked everything about Japan and Japanese culture. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

It may be a bit difficult...
First of all, Japanese language schools want to hire young"er" teachers.
Second, it is very hard for a 36-year-old Japanese single mother to get/find a job.
Third, your sister's kid probably has to go to the daycare while your sister is working, but good daycares are always full.

But since she has such a wonderful background, she can also apply for some other companies in Japan, such as web design offices, newspaper companies (Japan Times, Daily Yomiuri, and so on), banks, etc...

Hope she can find a job and enjoy her life with her son in Japan.

Her timing isn't too good.
The largest private English conversation school in the country, Nova, just went bust and there are thousands of English teachers looking for work.

i suggest she go to south korea... if im not mistaken, they have bigger salaries for english teachers than in japan.

she can just go there directly and find a job for herself.. usually the school will prepare everything for her.

She might have a hard time with a two year old plus teaching. It is very much a full time job. I could barely cope with the workload without children.

The mimimum requirement to get a job teacing English is a Bachelors. She can get a job. No problem. The culture shock will be difficult, at first, and then you have to think about her son. What will he do when she is at work??

Some big schools are: Berlitz and Aeon

Good for your sister! She will LOVE Japan!

I lived there for two years when I was younger, and really value my exeriences I had. My son recently spent a year in Okinawa, and loved his experiences there.

Your sister can Google blogs and websites on TESL in Japan. She'll get lots of great advice and tips about moving there and getting along an a culture that is very different from American "culture."

I'm sure she'll have a wonderful time there!
